Location: Reno Nevada

This position provides patient care of a technical nature under supervision of a licensed nurse.

The Labor and Delivery Scrub Tech performs multiple functions as a Surgical Technologist and Unit Clerk to support in the day-to-day operations of OB Services Department.

A)

The Labor and Delivery Scrub Tech is responsible for supplying the operating room, with

the proper supplies, equipment, and instrumentation that’s needed for a specific surgery.

During the procedure the! primary responsibilities of the Tech is to maintain the steri! lity of the surgical field, to anticipate the needs of the surgeons, passing instruments in a timely fashion.

Under direct supervision the Tech may be asked to perform the following duties such as, but not limited to, sponge or suction, hold retractors or instrument placed by the surgeons, applies electrocautery to clamps on bleeders, irrigation to the operative sight, cuts suture material, connects drains to the suction apparatus, applies dressings to the wound.

Once the procedure is completed it is the responsibility of the Tech to care for the instrumentation & equipment and prepare for the following case.

When acting as the second assisting Tech he/she may perform all the duties listed above with the direct supervision of the surgeon.

This position will provide any assistance needed to expedite the room turnover thereby, providing optimum customer service to the surgeon, patient, anesthesiologist, and co-workers.

The Labor an! d Delivery Scrub Tech is responsible for ordering and supplying the Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms (LDRs) Antepartum rooms, and Labor Assesment Department (LDA) the proper supplies, equipment, and

instrumentation needed for out patients, Antepartum patients, and labor patients. When available the

Labor and Delivery Scrub Tech will assist with deliveries.

Under direct supervision of the Nurse or Physician,

the Tech may be asked to (but not limited to) provide assistance to the L&D Nurse and OB Physician

during delivery by providing assistance with vacuum deliveries, positioning patient for pushing and

delivery, hold retractors or instruments placed by the physician, obtain extra needed supplies, fill out baby

bands and or obtain security sensor for baby.

Once the procedure is completed the Tech may be asked to assist with cleaning and

repositioning of patient.

The Tech is responsible for! the instrumentation, equipment and restocking of

the room.
B)

The Unit Clerk responsibilities include performing clerical duties, acts as unit receptionist, coordinates

unit/patient schedules and activities, proper use of computer and telephone and maintains an orderly and

efficient nurses station.

This position is often the first contact for patients and or family members arriving to or calling the Labor and

Delivery unit.

Nature and Scope:
This position serves a patient population of Neonate, Adolescent, and Adult.

Incumbent provides technical skills as a member of the surgical team, communicating with the OB/OR Coordinator, Supervisors, Nurses, other OB Services staff, Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, and Respiratory Therapists in the L&D operating rooms & LDR’s.

The demands on this position are dynamic due to the rapid changes in medical procedures, technical knowledge, instrumentation, equipment, policies, procedures, and because of surgeon! ’s preferences in equipment, instruments, needles, and suture.

Incumbent decides the type of equipment and supplies required for the surgical care and

delivery of the patient relative to the surgeon’s preference cards and knowledge of the procedure, and to identify any breakdown in aseptic technique and take appropriate action.

Incumbent is responsible for ensuring equipment is working properly before surgical procedure, cares for equipment after procedure, and is responsible for reporting & tagging equipment that is not working properly or is broken.

Ability to interact and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary health care team and with patients and families of differing socio-economic backgrounds.

Is expected to function efficiently under pressure and stress and be able to identify and maintain priorities; respond to simultaneous requests from many people and still remain courteous and tactful.

The incumbent assists with facilitating the proper documentation o! f the patient care systems from pre- admission through discharge.

The incumbent must be familiar with standard operating procedures in ancillary departments to schedule diagnostic test and treatments without conflict.

Incumbent assists with maintenance of clerical supplies and interdepartmental communication.

Other related duties, flexible hours, and overtime may be requested.

This position has the freedom to rotate work areas and duties as needed and/or directed.

This position does provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requirements â€" Required and/or Preferred

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge o! f the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.

Formal technologist school program or in hospital training for Labor and Delivery Scrub Tech is preferred; if does not have, training will be provided upon hire.

Experience:
6 months experience preferred.

License(s):
none

Certification(s):
Current BLS certification by The American Heart Association standards is required.

Certified Surgical Technologist is preferred.

Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc
