Under the supervision of the management staff and or their designee processes and prepares multi-specialty and general surgery! instrumentation for sterilization to optimize safe and efficient turn over of cases on the surgical schedule. Cleans, assembles, and maintains endoscopic scopes and accessories for a multi-million dollar department.
Nature and Scope:
This position provides a vital service to the Surgical Services Department which cannot function without the instrumentation and equipment prepared by this staff. This position is utilized for cleaning, assembling instruments; sterilization of some supplies; assembling sterile supplies for operating room personnel; provides all initial cleaning and decontamination of instruments and trays for sending to Central Sterile Processing; keeping cores stocked with needed supplies; serves as a resource to operating room personnel; provides all equipment cleaning for the endoscopy, pain management area and the Emergency Department.
The major challenges to this position are learning constantly changing instruments, equipment! , procedures, sterile techniques, and efficiently handling the! equipment and supply needs for emergency cases. Determining processed instrumentation meets stringent criterion for sterility and use in the operating room. Serves as the source for identifying outside vendor instruments, systems, and their locations. Provides assistance to all outside vendors on a daily basis including maintaining their instruments and sets.
This position is responsible for monitoring the need for instruments, implants, and supplies. This position maintains organization of the same in the cores to promote efficiency in both cost and service.
Rotation between Core I & II workroom occurs on a routine basis. Core I & II are different areas, each responsible for different services. These are separate core areas in the Surgical Center and in Endoscopy/Special Procedures Department .
This position is utilized for their expertise in providing service to physicians, staff, and outside hospitals with their knowledge of physicians prefere! nces, based on physician preference cards.
This position provides technical support to anesthesiologists and surgical staff under the supervision of the Support Services Supervisor.
Other related duties, flexible hours, and overtime may be required.
