Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The quality of CRNA practice shall meet or exceed reasonable standards of professional practice for the health care concerned as determined by the same authority that governs military medical professionals in the same discipline. The duties include but are not limited to the following: Manage patient anesthesia experience, perform preoperative evaluations and preparations, administer monitored anesthesia care, regional and general anesthesia, monitor and manage patient reactions to anesthesia and surgery, manage fluid therapy, perform and manage invasive monitoring, and perform postoperative evaluations as privileged by the credentials committee. Advise appropriate anesthesiologist of adverse reactions necessitating nondelegated medical decisions; take appropriate actions as directed or required.
Assist with the training of other staff personnel, act as clinical adjunctive faculty for student nurse anesthetists in their clinical phase, to include phase II anesthesia students, in venipuncture and intravenous therapy, respiratory care, and anesthesia. Indicate responsibility for the contents and accuracy of all prepared reports/forms by affixing his/her own signature to the documents after validation. Attend and participate in professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities as follows: (1) Professional staff meetings, (2) Surgical services meetings, and (3) Anesthesia service meetings as requested by the Chief, Department of Surgery, unless not scheduled for duty on the day in question. Department quality improvement activities as assigned by the department chief may include, but not limited to: Occurrence screening checklist Patient care chart audits Special studies on quality of care within the Anesthesia Service Nonclinical duties will include, but is not limited to: Maintaining cleanliness of anesthesia work areas and equipment Rotation of stock and removal of supplies nearing expiration Reviewing and updating of departmental operating instructions Hospital committee representation Orientation of personnel Supervision Requires moderate supervision and may at times supervise others Minimum Qualifications / Education and/or Experience Have and maintain a current license to practice nursing in at least one state in the United States.
Shall hold current certification or recertification from an approved national CRNA certifying body. Shall maintain certification and be recertified every 2 years by the' Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists. Have and maintain current certification in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). Be a graduate of an approved Nurse Anesthesia training program.
Have experience in the delivery of and monitoring of all types of anesthesia utilized in the delivery of obstetrical anesthesia (general endotraeheal, subarachnoid block and epidural). Have current experience; at least 12 months within the last 24 months providing epidural analgesia (labor epidurals). Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Clearance: A current unrestricted license from any one of the 50 U.S. States, the District of Columbia, The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S.
Virgin Islands is acceptable. Current BLS from American Heart Association. Computer Skills Must have working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications as well as experience with Electronic Medical Records.
